I'm so mad right now, I'm spitting. This is one of the most horrendous things I've ever heard of. I can't believe that this actually happens here! Why in the world would you ever EVER think that a prenant woman in labor could possibly be a flight risk?!? What kind of idiot actually does this to someone?!

Yeah, she does, and it's a good thing too. I can't believe that anyone would actually do that to a woman in labor. It just makes me mad beyond all words. I'm think about resorting to symbols. !@#!

This is absurd--unless there is reason to believe that the woman is violent, she ought to be in an hospital, not shackled in a cell. We let violent felons get cable TV, but shackle non-violent pregnant women. How's that for penal logic? Besides being cruel, the kind of pointless sadism only poisons the well for when legitimate restraints are needed.
Still, this raises another question. Last time I checked, pregnancy does not happen by accident. If these women were not pregnant when they were sent to jail, there is a much bigger human rights problem in that place.
