And why not? If the medical profession is moving inevitably towards a more consumer-driven model, why shouldn't we adjust our behavior accordingly? I love it that this opinion came from someone immersed in the medical profession.

I find it interesting as well, presenting yet one more Faustian baragin in modern medicine. Health care costs so much that providers do anything possilble to save costs; saving money results in a cold business approach that alienates patients.
Of course, we could go back to the days when life expectency was only about 50, so then there wouldn't be this cost problem (just kidding; I'm not Judge Posner).
